Be sure to check our website blog and monthly event calendar Calendar Of Monthly Events The spirit of a mother, what does that mean to you? In a few weeks are celebrating the beautiful spirit of motherhood, here’s what the spirit of motherhood means to me... Mama bear, yes I said it, mama bear! The mama bear represents someone who is strong a natural leader, protective, generous, stable and reliable, extremely loyal, intuitive, empathetic, and a creative dreamer.Do you know any mama bears? Being a mother actually has very little to do with birthing a child from your body. That might be the most obvious scenario, but motherhood is so much more than a physical happening. I have known some expert “mothers” who never birthed or raised any children of their own, and I have known some mothers with a brood of children who shouldn’t be allowed to come anywhere near them. I don’t think motherhood can be simply defined by having or not having little people under your care. A nurturing mama bear wears the mantle of motherhood about her. She maybe your teacher, coach, neighbor, relative, friend, or co worker. She makes each of us feel so special and she cheers us on in anything we are trying to do. She sees the treasure that lies within each person, and she helps us to see it, too. She is such a gift to us, we treasure her and celebrate her today and every day! Sometimes mama bear needs a little nurturing to... For the entire month of May Rose Quartz Rollers will be 10% off! The Rose Quartz Facial Roller is an incredible tool for inner and outer beauty. Facial rolling is relaxing and de-stressing. It’s been a beauty ritual since ancient times, dating all the way back to the 7th century. Physically, it helps to firm the look of skin through gentle massage. It also aids in supporting the lymphatic system, the body’s main major detoxification system. Metaphysically, rose quartz corresponds to the heart chakra, the energy center of love. "Rose Quartz is one of the most beautifying healing stones. It helps to ease tension + stress in the body, soothes anxiety, which is essential when it comes to clear, smooth skin." Rose Quartz Roller Can Help To: + Improve elasticity of the skin + Reduce appearance of puffiness and fine lines + Ease facial muscle tension + Help products absorb better Tip: After cleansing and toning, smooth a few drops of facial oil into skin. This will help the Facial Roller glide across the skin with ease, while the roller will help the facial oil to absorb better, increasing its benefits. Place the roller in the refrigerator before use for extra cooling effects. Due to natural formations in the stones, each tool will be unique. Color will vary slightly from the picture that is listed. Listing is for one Rose Quartz Roller. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. It's June and its summer... Most of us know the importance of wearing sunscreen in the summer months to avoid sunburn and damage, but it really should be a year-round as a preventative. Always wear sunscreen, no matter your skin color or tone. Sunscreen dates back to ancient Egypt, where rice bran extract and jasmine were used to help shield skin from the sun. Chemists invented the first commercial sunscreen in 1936, and it has been improved upon ever since. Our Glo and Zuii cosmetics offer beauty and sunscreen for protection. For your hair protection, our leave-in sprays from OCS, O&M, So Pure And Zerran will protect your hair-color investment by preventing oxidation from UV light. Status Quo Protect Leave-In Conditioner Designed to maintain healthy hair Gentle enough for everyday use Improves colour retention With organic grapefruit, B5, orange peel extract and natural sunflower seed extract to protect and repair your natural or coloured hair from UV irradiation, reducing colour fade and environmental damage. Why You Should Always Wear Sunscreen, Even on Cloudy Days Up to 80 percent of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds, so if you assume it’s OK to forgo protection on an overcast day, think again. Sunscreen should be a daily habit that should be maintained all year, including the winter months. Snow can reflect up to 80 percent of ultraviolet (UV) rays, increasing your risk of exposure to sun damage. Also, the higher the altitude, the greater the UV exposure. When in doubt: always wear sunscreen! Top four reasons why applying sunscreen should be a daily habit year round: It Protects Your Skin from UV Rays: The depletion of the ozone layer has increased our risk of sun damage from harmful UV rays. It Lowers Your Skin Cancer Risk: Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. You may cut your risk of contracting skin cancers in half. It Prevents Premature Aging of the Skin: Sun damage from UV rays causes photoaging of the skin, which is characterized by a thick, leathery look; discoloration; and a breakdown of collagen, which contributes to lines, sagging and wrinkles. Studies show that those below age 55 who apply sunscreen regularly have 24 percent less chance of developing these signs of aging than those who don’t. It Helps Maintain an Even Skin Tone: Sunscreen helps prevent discoloration and dark spots from sun damage, helping you maintain a smoother and more even skin tone. Understanding the different forms of rays is important when researching the right sunscreen for your skin. UVA Rays – Longwave rays that penetrate deeper into the dermis. These rays contribute to DNA damage and skin cancer, in addition to being the main culprits of wrinkles and premature aging. UVB Rays – These shortwave rays have slightly more energy and are considered burning rays that directly damage DNA. UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburns and skin cancer. It’s crucial to find a formula that provides broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Zinc Oxide is a key ingredient that prevents damage from both UVA and UVB rays, found in Many of our Glo Skin products. What are the visual effects sun damage can have on my skin? The list of undesirable effects of sun damage includes: Dry, rough and damaged skin Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone Fine lines and wrinkles Sagging due to loss of elasticity Actinic Keratosis – precancerous, red, scaly patches of skin If damage to your skin has already happened there is help... The biggest benefit of using Vitamin C is protection against free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that “steal” electrons from the nearby atoms in healthy cells, setting off a cycle of free radical creation, which ultimately results in the destruction of healthy cells and tissue. Free radicals are thought to cause a number of skin conditions related to aging, including skin darkening, inflammation and the breakdown of collagen and elastin – elements that make the skin plump and youthful. Years of exposure to free radicals causes our skin to show signs of aging. While many people might immediately think of aging as the most common skin concern, hyperpigmentation is not far behind. And it’s no wonder, as hyperpigmentation can raise a woman’s perceived age by up to twenty years! What is Hyperpigmentation? Hyperpigmentation is classified as the uneven skin pigment in the form of dark spots or patches, stemming from an uneven distribution of melanin, the substance that gives skin its color. Hyperpigmentation will affect many people to some degree due to melanocytes in our skin which are responsible for creating melanin, becoming less efficient as we age. What Causes Hyperpigmentation? The primary cause of hyperpigmentation is due to overexposure from the sun. Over time our melanocytes become affected, causing damaged DNA cells to replicate incorrectly, resulting in an irregular distribution of pigment. DNA damage by UV rays may be the most common factor of excessive pigmentation, but it’s not the only one. Skin injuries and inflammation can lead to a specific type of hyperpigmentation called chloasma, while hormonal changes can also trigger melasma, known as the “mask of pregnancy”. These two types of hyperpigmentation can be difficult to treat because they come in patches of discoloration, not spots. In any case, the sun will always exacerbate hyperpigmentation, which is why we recommend incorporating an SPF into your daily routine. How to Brighten Skin Targeting and treating hyperpigmentation can be a long process, but with the proper products from our Bright Skin Solution and a little bit of patience, a brighter complexion is possible. To start any hyperpigmentation treatment process, whether at-home or professionally, we recommend wearing and reapplying SPF every day, in addition to using products that brighten and inhibit the formation of melanin and exfoliating to target existing pigmented areas.
