JULY BEAT THE HEAT

July 4, 2016

July is the peek of summer and everyone is trying to stay cool.

We recommend getting a haircut that doesn’t require a lot of styling using a hot blow-dryer.
At Rapture Organic Salon we will help you determine the correct style for your hair type.

For Example…
Is your hair is fine and straight?
Your Challenge: Without teasing or hot rollers or upside-down blow-drying (you know the maneuver), your hair can feel like it's plastered to your head (and humidity doesn't help).

Your Ideal Cut: A “bob” that’s angled slightly shorter in the back than in the front gives fine hair extra lift at the crown. Terry Craig recommends deep, side-swept bangs that can also help create the illusion of heft. Another advantage to a shorter cut: It's a lot easier to wash every day. If you have fine hair, you likely also have more hair follicles per square inch, which means more oil-causing sebaceous glands at roots that get greasy—and flat—without daily shampoos. You might want to consider a few highlights around your face. “Lightener causes the hair to swell up a bit, so it looks fuller,” says colorist Julie Craig.

Steer Clear Of: Too much length. “ once fine hair gets below the shoulders, it’s almost impossible for it to hold any style,” says Terry Craig, he suggest layers only in moderation. A few long ones can add swing to your ends, but too many make fine hair look stringy.

Your go-to products:

 Haircuts for Thick Hair

Do you have thick bulky hair?
Your Challenge:
One drawback of thick locks is their monolithic character. We mean, with the wrong haircut your hairstyle for thick hair is going to look artificial and motionless. That’s why haircuts which reveal the ends and endow them with the feel of movement are extremely flattering for thick tresses. One-length haircuts should be avoided, while graded and progressive cuts with a shorter length around the crown and longer locks at the nape are going to make your hair look more dynamic.

Beat The Heat With Cooling Mint

Think mint belongs only in juleps and ice cream? Think again
the most abundant herb in your backyard has an abundance of uses.

There are two main types of garden mint: peppermint and spearmint. Bright-green peppermint has smooth leaves and is stronger and sharper in flavor; spearmint is milder in both color and taste; its leaves are often slightly ruffled. Mint is best when snipped just before using. If you have mint in your backyard, keep snipping and using it; once it flowers or grows too tall, the leaves will toughen. Smaller, newer leaves tend to be more tender and flavorful, so keep your mint trimmed.

If you don’t have mint growing at your house, pick up the freshest leaves you can find from the closest farmers market. It will keep for about a week or so — place the bunch stems down in a glass or jar half-filled with water, and loosely cover with a plastic storage bag.
